The End Product

Marshall completed the South Carolina Jr. Duck Stamp picture on Friday, January 30th. The painting was sent in by Mrs. Floyd to be entered in this years competition. Remember he is competing with a more advanced age group this year. We were told by Mrs. Floyd that it is rather tough for a 9 year old to compete with a 12 year old. He is a winner in my book! (but I am his Mom)

It was entered as:
Pintail Duck, Watercolor Painting.
Marshall Webster 9 yrs.old
4th Grade Pee Dee Elementary

Update: SC Jr Duck Stamp (In Process)

This latest picture was taken just after Marshall's art class on Thursday. You can see that he started to work a little on the reflection and the eye. I think that he said that he was done working on the eye. He said that is a very hard part, it is so little and you have to be so steady.

The Next Picture in the Process

This was taken 1/12/2009. Marshall began the process of layering with watercolor paints. Last year's was done with watercolor pencils, he said that watercolor paints were a little harder to control than the pencils. His choice was to paint a Pin tail duck, I am not up on my duck identification, but I think it is pretty!

The new SC Duck Stamp has begun!

Last school year, Marshall attained first place in the South Carolina Jr. Duck Stamp art competition!

Work has now begun on the new picture for this school year. This year, he will compete with a more advanced age group. This group is 4th grade-6th grade, it is a hard group to place. I have a few pictures taken over several weeks to show the progress. I will try and catch him during class to capture more pictures of the work in progress.

This is the rough draft pencil sketch. They look for a picture in a magazine that they like and begin to sketch using a pencil.

You can see the progress! After much sketching and re-sketching and erasing, it is starting to look a little better. I am amazed at what a 9yr old can do! He has an extremely talented art teacher, her guidance is very evident in his work!

I know that this is my son, but I think he has some talent! It is looking much better now. He is feeling better about it now. He said he has lots of work to do on the feathers. I will try and keep you posted on the progress!
